Predictions for Oscar (Major Categoies only)
Here's mine (in order from lock to barely making it.) *- Preference
Best Picture
1. No Country
2. There Will be Blood
3. Juno *
4. Michael Clayton
5. Into the Wild (could easily be replaced by Atonement)
This is the first time I've put Into the Wild into the top 5. I'm finally convinced by its buzz. As for Juno, I just love that movie!
Best Director
1. Coen Bros, No Country *
2. P.T.A., TWBB
3. Sean Penn' Into the Wild
4. Julian Schnabel' Diving Bell
5. Tim Burton , Sweeney Todd
Burton is another hopeful addition. It's a shame that his film lost all of its buzz. After the GG win, Schnabel is a lock.
Best Actor
1. Lewis, TWBB
2. Clooney, Michael Clayton
3. Depp, Sweeney Todd
4. Mortensen, Eastern Promises *
5. Hirsch, Into the Wild
I do not think the AMPAS can overlook Viggo after 2 acclaimed performances in a row, Hirsch is a maybe. He could be replaced by D. Washington or Gosling
Best Actress
1. Christie, Away from her
2. Page, Juno *
3. Cotillard, La Vie en Rose
4. Jolie, Mighty Heart
5. Adams, Enchanted
Everyone is a lock except Adams, who I think will surprise. If not Adams then Blanchett who I never really thought would be considered for "The Golden Age" but she snagged the GG and SAG nods.
Best S. Actor
1. Bardem, No Country
2. Holbrook, Into the Wild
3. Wilkinson, Clayton
4. Affleck, Assassination of Jesse...
5. Jones, No Country
Look for P.S. Hoffman to possibly snag the fifth spot. Both he and Jones have had strong years, but I think the SAG nod will pull Jones through.
Best S. Actress
1. Blanchett, I'm not there
2. Ryan, Gone Baby Gone *
3. Swinton, Clayton
4. Keener, Into the Wild
5. Ronan, Atonement
All locks. Although Redgrave has a slim chance of snatching the spot from Ronan.
Best O. Screenplay
1. Juno *
2. Michael Clayton
3. The Savages
4. Ratatouille
5. Knocked Up
Juno has all the buzz, Michael Clayton is well liked, The Savages is this year's Match Point/ Squid and the Whale. Knocked Up could be booted out by Eastern Promises/ Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, NOT Lars and the real Girl which has to many haters against it.
Best A. Screenplay
1. No Country *
2. Into the Wild
3. Diving Bell and the Butterfly
4. TWBB
5. Atonement
Despite losing buzz, Atonement looks good in this category. I don't see any love for Charlie Wilson's War. Everyone else is a lock.
